Bad news for me

Apparently I was mistaken about the Crystal Brush occurring at both the Coolminiornot.com Expo and Adepticon. The competition at the Expo is only a qualifier for the Crystal Brush. Since there is no way I will win the top spot I don't know that there is any reason to enter. The prizes haven't been announced yet, but if last year's are any indication then its going to be less than $100 for even gold place winners. If there were trophies involved I'd probably still go, but its just gift certificates for the Coolminiornot store. It's not that I only care about winning, it's that I wanted a shot at a Crystal Brush, even a bronze, because the trophy looks awesome. With a qualifier prize only going to the top place I would be better served by saving the money for the expo and putting it toward the trip cost for Adepticon 2015. It's really disappointing since I was looking forward to entering the mini I'm painting right now. Maybe I can find someone going to Adepticon in time to go. I guess we'll see.

Next WIP

I've started on the main body of the mage. I'm thinking about doing either some form of flame freehand on his robes or perhaps scales. I'm holding off for the rest of the day. I'll decide tomorrow, maybe. I also worked more on the base, which I will post tomorrow. Until then here is my progress.

Crystal Brush Entry 1 WIP

So, a couple of weeks ago I decided to enter the Crystal Brush painting competition. My first idea was to enter the fantasy unit category. I was planning on entering a unit of High Elf Dragon Princes of Caledor. I planned to use an airbrush on my entry, so I broke down and bought one off Amazon. I used it to prime the models, unfortunately. I ended up with fuzz on the models somehow and now they are unusable for the Crystal Brush, so I decided to just use them for my High Elf army instead, which is where they were headed if they didn't place anyway.
After that I decided to go easy on myself and start off in the single miniature fantasy category. I say easy because it is easiest to paint a single mini, but it is the hardest category to win since it IS so easy to paint a single model, lots of people enter that category. I decided to enter a High Elf mage from the Island of Blood box set for Warhammer Fantasy Battle.
Here are a few work in progress shots.

Post the first, In which this one introduces himself, a number of points are presented and certain facts, though not all factual, are revealed.

Hello and welcome to my newly created blog. My name is Urion and this is my first blog. I hope you enjoy. This blog will be primarily dedicated to my hobby, miniature painting and wargaming, but it will also be dedicated to other arts as well, such as fire spinning and circus performance, with occasional opinions on this and that. I will also be sharing with you the people who have inspired me, both in my arts and in this blog, and in life. Eventually I will be adding a youtube page once I get the nerve up to video my exploits in performance and painting tutorials. For now it will only be pictures and words. Thank you for your attention.
