Moros, cerastus knight atrapos

It is believed by many in the Ordo Machinum that Moros is the prototype for the cerastus knight atrapos, or at least the oldest surviving example. Records of its existence predate the Imperium by many thousands of years though the details of its creation have been long since lost to history. Few details exist even of its current state. Both the Ordo Machinum and the Ordo Hereticus have fragmented records of encounters dating back thousands of years yet the knight known as Moros remains shrouded in mystery. Some believe that it has fallen to chaos through its long years of warfare and isolation. Yet others believe that it serves no master and is more akin to a force of nature, utterly destructive and uncontrollable. The few details that are well documented pertain to the nature of its arrival upon a world and its later mysterious disappearance.
The first sign of Moros' arrival upon a world is the sudden and random appearance of the Muninnites. The Muninnites are a cult who worship Moros as a god of war and a bringer of mass destruction. In the days preceding the arrival of Moros random members of the cult appear among the population with no warning and no history of the cult's presence on the world. Cult members who appear in this early stage who have been captured and interrogated by the Ordo Hereticus have no previous history of cult activity of any kind. It is as if the coming of Moros creates in them a need for anarchy and destruction.

I intend to enter this in the upcoming armies on parade. Though I am still trying to decide what army to put with him.

Anagi Leeuwenhoek, Grand Parasite of the Lidless Eye

Anagi Leeuwenhoek, Grand Parasite of the Cult of the Lidless Eye has been a member of the Mechanicus since before the singing of the Treaty with Terra. She worked within the gene vaults of the Emperor beneath the Imperial Palace at the onset of the Great Crusade as a surgeon pioneering many of the techniques which would become integral in creating the organs necessary in creating the space marines. There are secrets locked within her memories that no one but her recalls. Even Belisarius Cawl has lost many of the secrets from those early days, but Grand Parasite Leeuwenhoek has lost none of her long memory.

Archmagos Leeuwenhoek has many titles within the Lidless Eye. In her war aspect she is Archmagos Dominus Leeuwenhoek, who's knowledge of the microscopic world sees her unleash terrible nanomachine plagues upon her enemies. To the rest of Mars she is the Omnissiah's Red Right Hand, a destroyer of worlds and extinguisher of species. She is the figurehead of the Cult of the Lidless Eye and is seen as its leader. In truth she is closer to an ally to the Cult. The Golden King is the true leader of the Cult and Leeuwenhoek is his most powerful tool. Her extensive knowledge and political power within the Mechanicus has lead the Cult of the Lidless Eye to become the most powerful faction of Dark Mechanicus working within the Segmentum Solar.

The Eternal Wanderers

A large portion of the Cult of the Lidless Eye is dedicated to the exploration of the rad wastes of Mars as well as the vast data vaults beneath. Among these forces are the Eternal Wanderers, who search the wastes for the lost and forgotten entrances to infocaverns and datacaves deep within the Red Planet. Z-436x has roamed the wastes of Mars longer than he can remember. He is the Knight Baron of the Eternal Wanderers and under his command is a Rad-Zone Corps consisting of several units of Skitarii Vanguard, Sicarian Ruststalkers, and his own Sydonian Dragoon brothers. With z-436x at their head this army of irradiated killers roams the surface of Mars plundering the forgotten history of the Mechanicus.

Archmagos Dominus Anagi concept

I went out and bought the Lady Olynder and some green stuff today to make an Archmagos Dominus conversion. I have done a beginning sketch to start with. I'm sure she will change a bit as I come up with more ideas, but for now here is the initial concept.

The Clockwork King/Aurum Custos I

None suspect that the robot bodyguard Aurum Custos I is the master of the Cult of the Lidless Eye. To all outsiders it is merely an advanced and powerful bodyguard for the Tech Priest Dominus Galt Singe. In truth he is in fact an Abominable Intelligence. He is the impetus for the cult's research into AI technology as well as biological studies. His ultimate goal is to house AI intelligences within human flesh. With this ability he will be able to place his agents in all levels of power within the Imperium. It was the Clockwork King who was integral to the onset of Old Night and his plans to usurp mankind's dominance was only ruined by the emergence of the Emperor. The Clockwork King secretly backed Horus as soon as his rebellion came to light and he and his agents have opposed the agents of the Emperor ever since.

I wanted this model to have a completely different aesthetic from all the others in the army to give it the feel of something much more advanced and at the same time more ancient. I feel like the elegant Art Nuevo look of the model helped convey that feeling. I think adding the axe to the model helped add that brutal element to the model to bring it into the Grimdark of 40k.

The Cult of the Lidless Eye

The Cult of the Lidless Eye is a canker within the heart of the Mechanicum itself. Deep beneath the surface of Mars the Cult of the Lidless Eye excavates lost technology and experiments with new. The Dark Mechanicus of the Lidless Eye have been present since the civil war on Mars during the Horus Heresy. They venerate Horus as the Great Liberator and wear his symbol to show there devotion to the uncompromising search for knowledge that the Emperor attempted to curtail with his dictates against certain studies, such as the search to create a working AI. Because of the age of the cult few suspect that they are indeed Dark Mechanicus, but nothing could be further from the truth.

My first retcon

A while ago I created a large Dark Mechanicus model named Inquisitor Matthias Balthasar Harnak  . The model I converted was unfortunately broken while I was at work one day and subsequently left in a box in pieces. Unfortunately I could not find all his pieces so I had to reassemble him in new ways. With this new creation and my "new" army I decided to retcon his backstory, which I will keep for another model to be created.

Justinian Lorme was once a techmarine for the XIVth legion, the Death Guard. He was chiefly in charge of maintaining the mechanisms related to containment of the deadly biological weapons of the legion. After the Heresy Lorme's interests began to lead to the forbidden field of warp technology as well augmentic surgery which was usually left to the apothecaries of the legion. Lorme was no longer interested in simple machines and began to combine flesh with technology in disturbing ways. He also began researching the demon engines of the Dark Mechanicum. Now millennia later he has ascended to demonic heights for his contribution to Nurgle's cause. Throughout the millennia of the Long War Lorme has augmented his body beyond that of even the Death Guard plague marines physique. He now towers above those who serve him. His distain for the Poxwalkers often employed by other members of the Death Guard is shown by his chosen form of locomotion. Fit only as fuel for his experiments Poxwalkers find no place among his armies.

A new beginning

I haven't posted here in a long time, longer than I realized and I thought now would be a good time. With all of the new Adeptus Mechanicus models out, and several new blogs I started following, I have been inspired to create a Dark Mechanicus army. Here is the first in many twisted creations. Excommunicate Traitoris Ordo Machinum Inquisitor Matthias Balthasar Harnak.

Inquisitor Matthias Balthasar Harnak was once a member of the Ordo Machinum on Mars. During his investigations he discovered the name Frenel. While investigating rumors of Dark Mechanicus activities he came across ancient data mentioning a house fallen during the Horus Heresy and largely expunged from Imperial and Martian records. Following up on the information he found led him to the Automnic Fraternal, a cell of House Frenel secretly operating on Martian soil. Inquisitor Harnak was discovered but rather than kill him he was turned over to the Memnopliad, a group within House Frenel dealing with mind manipulation and brain augmentation. Through torturous operations and organic reprogramming Inquisitor Harnak was turned into an agent of House Frenel. Harnak was used as a tool for eliminating those Mechanicus factions that opposed the Automnic Fraternal under the guise of the Ordo Machinum until his discovery and excommunication from the order. After the Ordo Machinum discovered and purged the Automnic Fraternal from Mars Harnak fled through a network of House Frenel safehouses till he was able to reach one of their Forge Worlds near the Eye of Terror. There he made contact with House Frenel directly and was taken to Karchemesh. Matthias Harnak, as befits one of Inquisitor stock, has over the years worked his way into the inner circles of House Frenel. Through his years of service to House Frenel Harnak has been surgically alter by the Magos Biologis he served to a more resiliant and deadly form. There is little left of Inquisitor Matthias Balthasar Harnak's original body or mind. Only his brain and iron will have survived the rigorous alterations of House Frenel.
